"I applied to join the TUSU board as a Student Trustee as I am focused on ensuring that all students have the best possible experience with their feedback heard at all levels of the University. I want to ensure the financial struggles many face are more visible and work with the Student Officers to further improve the help students get with the cost of living. Additionally, I am passionate about proper equality for students who identify as LGBTQ+ and stamping out any discrimination they face. And I want to work with the President Education to further improve student’s understanding and awareness of the important issue of academic misconduct."
Corinna is originally from Scotland but spent most of her formative years in Middlesbrough. She has previously studied Business and Finance here at Teesside University and completed an MA in Social Work at York University, along with qualifications in youth justice and education at other institutions. She returned to education at Teesside University last year and is undertaking an MA in Trauma Informed Practice, having completed an MSc in Psychology; she also hopes to move on to a PhD here next year. Her previous links to the year and the positive impression created at Open Days encouraged her to choose to study here.
Between her spells in higher education, she spent a number of years working in accountancy, insurance, and social work, holding senior roles with a range of responsibilities, including the management of a seven-figure budget at one stage. She will also be a familiar face to many at the University from her range of roles and extensive involvement in student life including working in the Library and on the welcome desk here at TUSU. She is also due to start work as a University Ambassador. Alongside this, she has served as a School Representative through the 2024/25 academic year, is a lead member of the Post Graduate Society as well as being an enthusiastic member of several others and even found time to run as a candidate in the TUSU Student Officer Elections 2024!
In her spare time, she volunteers for an agency offering support to the elderly and the charity NEPACS which aims to help secure a positive future for individuals impacted by involvement in the criminal justice or care systems. She’s also an enthusiastic participant in many activities and events organised by TUSU and regularly frequents the Teesside Uni gym.
“I have always enjoyed getting involved in as many aspects of student life as possible and helping others while I study, this role offered a unique opportunity to do just that. I am committed to supporting the students’ union in their provision of the best possible services to students and having contributed to and greatly benefited from TUSU, I welcome the chance to contribute my skills and experience. I am hoping that my educational and employment background will both help to keep TUSU student focused and successful in the years ahead. It’s also a real pleasure to be on the board with people from such a wide range of backgrounds and skillsets.”

“I have not got heavily involved in TUSU during my studies to date but I applied for the role of Student Trustee to actively contribute more to the growth and success of both the Students’ Union and the wider student body. I feel my academic and professional backgrounds equip me well for the role with a solid understanding of financial governance and organisational strategy which I aim to build on during my time as a Board member. I am particularly passionate about, working with the Elected Officers and other Trustees, developing an inclusive, innovative, and supportive environment. I want every student to feel fully empowered to achieve their goals. I also obviously hope to contribute new ideas, be an advocate for diversity and help TUSU to keep responding to the evolving needs of a diverse student body.”
