Your Responsibilities

  • Attend all timetabled sessions (lectures, seminars, tutorials, online or in person).
  • Arrive on time and stay until the end.
  • Report absence via MyTU on the first day you’re off.
  • Provide evidence (e.g. medical note) if away more than 7 days.
  • Check your uni email and reply when needed.
  • Catch up on missed work quickly.
  • Don’t misuse attendance systems (e.g. asking others to “check you in”).

What the University Does

  • Monitors attendance & engagement.
  • Holds reviews in weeks 2, 5 & 8 of each semester.
  • Contacts you if there are concerns.
  • Offers support & interventions to help you re-engage.

If You Don’t Engage

  • Reminders and meetings to discuss issues.
  • Possible outcomes:
    • Continue with support
    • Take a break from studies
    • Withdrawal from your course
  • Absent 3 weeks in a row without reason = risk of being “presumed withdrawn.”

Support & Rights

  • Tell the Uni early if you face personal/health problems.
  • You can use Extenuating Circumstances procedures.
  • You have the right to a meeting, to bring Students’ Union support, and to appeal decisions.

Special Cases

  • International students: stricter rules due to visa requirements.
  • Professional/apprenticeship/placement courses: extra attendance rules may apply.

Tip: Treat attendance like showing up to work — consistent presence = success.
