Description

The Postgraduate Society is dedicated to Master’s, Doctorate and Ph.D students across Teesside University. We are also looking to develop an Alumni wing this year to support Postgraduate members as they step forward into their careers.

Our aim is to provide a safe, supportive space for students, a platform to discuss and share their experiences and expand their network while also learning new skills. This year our goals include growing as a society by inviting new members and bringing exciting opportunities to the students. We also want to enhance the social and pastoral support to our membershp and work more collaboratively with our friends in other socieities. On a weekly basis, our members are given the opportunity to join us for a coffee and engage in conversation with each other. During these sessions, students are welcomed & encouraged to discuss ideas and activities that they would like the society to organise. We are fortunate to have secured a donation for free tea, coffee and biscuits this year from a local businessman.

With over 15 workshops delivered to our credit so far, this year promises to be even better as we intend to provide a variety of seminars tailored to the members’ needs; examples of these include ‘How to use LinkedIn’, ‘Effective CV’ and ‘ A day in the life of a researcher’. We do have a fund in place, secured by our previous notable Chair, Dr Anirudh Sharma that can be accessed for appropriate research led activity.

After our successful trips to Wales and Scotland, we are aiming to organise additional cultural trips in the future.

As a society, we believe that the key to student upliftment is through skill development. We actively invite student feedback to improve our service and endeavour to make a positive contribution to the student experience at Teesside University. Therefore, we are proud to call ourselves a member-led society.
