A warm welcome to the latest update from Teesside University Students’ Union (TUSU)! We get in touch every month during the academic year unless you ask us to stop by unsubscribing.
This is the last time we will introduce the update before we leave our roles towards the end of June. It’s been an absolute honour to hold these roles, and we want to thank all of the students, student reps and of course staff in the SU and Uni who have supported us over the past 12 months. We wish everyone the very best for the future and send our successors (More about them in another item in this update) good wishes for what we are sure will be a very successful period in office.
In this edition we are looking back at two wonderful events to celebrate outstanding students, student reps and societies in April. And we send a final congratulations to everyone honoured at the Societies Celebration and Student Reps Awards, it was richly deserved!
Alongside that we’re looking ahead to the unmissable Big Summer Send Off on Friday, 16th May. Have you got your FREE tickets yet? We’re going to be there, and we want to see you at the biggest, best end of year party around too! More in another item in this update.
We’re also super excited for the first part of Graduation 2025 from Monday, 19th May, don’t forget that the TUSU Building is open all week for graduates and their families and friends to celebrate in! Much more in another item in this update and congratulations to everyone who will be graduating this summer, make sure you keep in touch with your SU!
And we have info on the availability of our building, services, and spaces over the summer period in an item further down. While we move to a more limited service from the end of May until September, TUSU is still here for you right through the summer if you need impartial advice and support with academic issues and accommodation or a place to meet, study and socialise.
Finally, we have some top tips for a safe, happy summer! That’s something we wish each one of you however you’re going to be spending it!

WHAT? Teesside University Students’ Union (TUSU) presents The Big Summer Send Off! It’s an unmissable opportunity for ALL Teesside Uni students and staff to celebrate the end of the traditional academic year with an epic summer party!
WHEN AND WHERE? Friday, 16th May from 4 pm onwards in Campus Heart and the TUSU Building on Southfield Road opposite The Library and The Curve.
WHAT ABOUT TICKETS? There’s a FREE entry option for students that gets you £10 worth of discounts and access to all the action! Or pay just £5 to also guarantee yourself food while you party! Remember to be ready to show your digital receipt and Teesside Uni Student ID card at the event, whichever option you go for!
CAN NON-STUDENTS COME? Yup!!! They just need to pay £5 for a great value guest ticket (food not included, we’re afraid). Again, remind them to bring a form of ID and their digital receipt to the event!

We advise to book tickets quickly as they are limited, and we expect them to sell out. There will be 100 on-the-day tickets available, but these will be charged at £10 each.
At the end of February and into early March, twenty-one current students and one existing Student Officer campaigned to be the next Student Officers (President Education, International and Wellbeing). They wanted the honour of representing all Teesside Uni students and leading TUSU from July 2026 and we congratulate them all on their hard work and contribution to student democracy.
Over 3,600 students cast over 10,000 votes, and at a thrilling Results Party, we confirmed that Sai Dorapally (President Education Elect), Ganesh Poshala (President International Elect) and Clinton Aideloje (President Wellbeing Elect) will form your new Student Officer team this summer.

We were delighted to have an opportunity to celebrate another excellent year for societies and Student Reps at two memorable events in early April held right here in the TUSU Building!
The Societies Celebration on Wed, 2nd April and Student Rep Awards on Thu, 3rd April saw outstanding individuals and groups recognised for their impact on student life, dedication to helping others and displays of effective leadership.
We also conferred the Honorary Lifetime Membership (HLM) of TUSU on three people (Darren Poole, Corinna Russell, and Sammy Komolafe). Our awards committee, after reading through nominations from students, agreed they had all made an extra special contribution through their respective hard work as student reps, society leaders/members, student staff at TUSU or Teesside Uni and volunteering.

Although some services and spaces offered by TUSU close over the summer (see this item for full info on what is available and when), if you remain a current, enrolled Teesside Uni student then SU Student Support (SUSS) will be here to help!
The experienced, professional advisers focus on academic and accommodation issues. Their advice is always impartial, but they work closely with the Uni and can put you in touch support services available from them or external agencies if they cannot help.
The service is located on the first floor of the TUSU Building (opposite The Curve and beside TU Library) and will be available on weekdays between 10 am and 4pm except for Bank Holidays from the end of May until mid-September.
You should always contact them in advance through suss@tees-su.org.uk to request an appointment or if you feel your enquiry can be resolved without coming in to speak to an adviser in person.
Deposits Decoded
AND...we know a lot of students will be approaching the end of accommodation contracts in June and July! We also know deposits can sometimes be confusing and the process for claiming them back can be difficult.
So, our Deposits Decoded campaign aims to provide you with practical advice on all aspects of deposits and particularly how to minimise the chances of deductions from your deposit or even all of it being withheld. We also explain the best way to handle the situation if you are in dispute with your accommodation provider over your deposit.
Alongside the info and video guide on the campaign page in the link above, remember you can message SUSS with issues related to your deposit or fix up a time to speak in person to a member of the team for help with them this summer.
Teesside University Students’ Union (TUSU) congratulates everyone graduating in May and July! We cannot wait to celebrate with you and your family and friends whenever you graduate!
The TUSU building (opposite The Curve and beside TU Library in Campus Heart) is open from 9am until early evening EVERY DAY there are graduation ceremonies, and EVERYONE is welcome to come in and celebrate! Please check below for exactly when some services will open each day.
We know the summer hasn’t even started BUT it’s never too early to start looking forward to TUSU Freshers!!! From Sat, 13th September through to mid-October we’ll work with the Uni to welcome new and returning students. It will be an unmissable period of activities, advice, events, free stuff, inductions, support and lots more!

TUSU works closely with the University and a range of key external agencies such as Cleveland Police, Cleveland Fire, and the NHS (National Health Service) to keep students safe while studying and living here in Teesside and in other places.
This month, we want to remind you about staying safe and limiting your chances of being affected by crime over the summer, whether you are remaining in Teesside or travelling elsewhere for some or all of the break.
We also want to remind you that the University and the Students’ Union have partnered up to produce a series of short, informative video guides designed to help you avoid being affected by fraud or scams.
