Recognition & Media Coverage

We're delighted say that Teesside University Students' Union (TUSU) consistently attracts a range of national recognition each year, most of which is based on the excellent feedback we receive from current or recent students at Teesside University. We also enjoy an excellent relationship with local, regional and national media resulting in extensive coverage of our events, activities and achievements every academic year. Find out more below.

Best Bar None Scheme

The Best Bar None Scheme, run by The National Union of Students (NUS), recognises Students' Unions with best practice and exceptional standards of staff training in their Licensed Trade departments. TUSU has secured gold status for the past five years and been accredited for over a decade, recognising our responsible approach to serving alcohol and running safe, welcoming venues with bars and night clubs in them. In the 2019 results we also received a much sought after 100% rating and were second in the country.

Times Higher Student Experience Survey

The THES is one of the biggest and most respected student surveys around. Students at Teesside University consistently rate the services, events and facilities provided by TUSU highly each year and in 2018 we again secured a Top 10 ranking, finishing higher than any other Students' Union in the North East.

Student Hut

The Student Hut website (www.studenthut.com) offers students from across the United Kingdom an opportunity to rate and review various aspects of the experience they have enjoyed including facilities, teaching and resources. The reviews and ratings are intended to help current and prospective students decide between different institutions when they are researching all types of courses. In the 2018/19 rankings, Teesside University Students’ Union placed  6th out of the 354 institutions listed. The placing was based on 177 reviews and ratings from current and past students at the University who used the Student Hut website,  over 40000 reviews were submitted to the website in total and the only form of data collection they currently carry out is inviting submissions to their website.

International Student Barometer (ISB)

The ISB gives international students a chance to reflect on the support, facilities and resources provided to them by the University and Students' Unions. We've enjoyed very high ratings for the past six years and secured a ranking equivalent to number 1 in the world in 2019! We're delighted to keep providing a first rate experience for students who sometimes needs extra help settling in to student life and the local community.
